Wood & Wires Afterhours: OBJEKT

Published November 1, 2013 by subcultureshanghai

Only 1 more day until the Sub-Culture X Split Works Afterhours at the Guinness Wood & Wires Festival! Artists are beginning to arrive in town and we are getting pretty excited for tomorrow night. Here’s a bit more on one of Sub-Culture’s favorite guests from the last couple of years, OBJEKT!

There isn’t a lot to go on with Objekt. After emerging in 2011 with a pair of mysterious, white label 12″ records, with just 4 tracks he solidified his position and reputation as one of the most talented and forward thinking producers in the scene. A third white label is being released in a weeks time. Apart from these amazing and now sought after 12″s, little more is known about Objekt. Here is his bio:

Adventures in machine music built to make subs rattle and feet wiggle; a convoluted mess of elektrology and teknology, 3-step, bass-core, post windmill, proto-minimal wankstep, gondola, shithouse, acid wonk, ambient gabber, no more, no less.

This Saturday sees the final Sub-Culture of 2012, and the last Sub-Culture until March 2013. It’s been one hell of a year and we really appreciate all the support you have given us. We are taking some time out in January and February next year to work on a few things we have planned for 2013, but we will be coming back bigger and stronger than ever in March! Watch this space!

But before then we have one final session, and this one is a bit special. We are honored to be teaming up with Berlin based crew Leisure System! Leisure System is a resident party at Berlin’s infamous Berghain, in fact its pretty much the biggest event they have there! A few months back they broke the record attendance in Berlin’s premier club, and as well as their regular event there they have also spread their wings and have been putting on events in London, Moscow and everywhere in between! We are very excited to be working with them and hope this is only the begining of something much bigger in the future..

So, for our first collaboration, Sub-Culture crew will be joined by one of Leisure System’s head honcho’s – PUZZLE, and crew member and one of the most exciting producers of recent years – OBJEKT!

Puzzle, a member of the Berlin based Leisure System crew has been producing beats the last ten years with releases on Tigerbeat6, Generation Bass, and Project Moon Circle. He now heads up as one of the Leisure Systems resident dj’s at their legendary Club Berghain nights. One of only two events to have Berghain residency. Now also a label, last year Leisure System broke its geographical bonds and set up international events in London, den Haag, Vienna, and Moscow. The Leisure System sound is a friends collective of artist that are mainly based in berlin incl. Chris Clark, Jimmy Edgar, MachineDrum, Objekt, Lando Kal, Barker, Actress, and Kuedo. Also co-runs the bodywerk nights with guests such as: Dj Rashad & Spinn, Teeth, and Krampfhaft. Puzzle represents the more cutting edge sound of the bunch, bringing booming bass kicks & rattling hi-hats to dance hungry feet!

With his critically acclaimed series of self-titled white label vinyl presses and remixes for Radiohead and SBTRKT amongst others, Objekt has created quite a storm across the electronic dance music spectrum. Having released on Hessle Audio and regularly blowing minds with his incredible DJ sets, the hype looks set to continue unabated!

Sub-Culture X Leisure System will take place at Dada Beijing on Friday 14th December and The Shelter Shanghai on Saturday 15th December. See you there!

Ok, we’ve been a bit quiet on here for some time now, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been doing anything. Finally subcultureshanghai.com has had a long over due lick of digital paint (thanks to Olivepixel) and we are ready to announce our upcoming events for the rest of the year! First off here are the dates for the Sub-Culture events in Shanghai. We will also be announcing our Beijing events and also a couple of special Sub-Cinema events in the next day or two, as well as getting back up to speed with the blog. All killer, no filler!
