Hamacide & ChaCha – You Me EP

Published February 27, 2012 by subcultureshanghai

It already seems like this year is going to be one of the best years for Shanghai music releases! Last Saturday’s Downstate album release was a complete success, and Tom played an absolute belter of a live set! Big thanks to everyone who came down to support local music!

Fresh out of the studio this week is Hamacide and ChaCha’s new EP – You Me! A brand new track produced by Hamacide with ChaCha on vocals, and remixes by Downstate, Jared Turinsky, Lightswitch Lafayette and Hamacide himself, with beautiful artwork by Lily Xiao! Check it out below, and download it from here. Its a ‘name your price’ release, so you can download it for free but you could also throw them a bit of cash and show your support!

Here’s a bit more info from Hamacide:

‘ChaCha is one of the first people I saw perfom when I moved to Shanghai in 2010.  Since then, I have heard her on numerous recordings ranging in many different styles, and I knew I had to work with her on something.  In late 2011, just before ChaCha was about to head to Madrid for the Redbull Music Academy,  I asked her to do one track with me.  Originally I meant for the track to be on a future Hamacide LP, but I got the idea to get some of my friends from Shanghai and New York to re-interpretate this track. I then asked Lily Xiao, whose work I really loved, to do the cover art.’

Published October 18, 2011 by subcultureshanghai

This Thursday (20th November) at Shelter sees Brainfeeder’s SAMIYAM take to The Shelter with a special live set with the Beat Conductorz crew!

Sam Baker, aka Samiyam, is currently one of the hottest beat makers around! From his collaborations with Flying Lotus as FLYamSAM, his legendary beat tape – Rap Beats Volume 1 to his brand new and highly regarded album ‘Sam Baker’s Album’, Sam’s beats have been causing a serious stir in the LA scene and beyond! He has released music on labels such as Kode 9’s Hyperdub, All City and Dublab and his debut album has just dropped on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder imprint.

Samiyam will be performing a full live set featuring tracks from his latest album as well as fresh new beats, all along side the cream of Shanghai’s beat scene – Hamacide, Sig and Ceezy!!

Check out this fantastic mix from Samiyam live at Plastic People from 2009. The mix incoporates many of the tracks from his latest album. Heavy!!

Hamacide – Might Little Machine Remix previews!

Published August 10, 2011 by subcultureshanghai

In July, Sub Culture were privileged to host the pre-release party of Hamacide’s forthcoming remix album on Japan’s Oil Works label. After a couple of minor delays, the vinyl version of the LP is due to be released at the end of the month and a preview of the tracks and art work (designed by Popy Oil) has just surfaced online. The 12″ vinyl comprises of 6 of the 18 tracks from the CD album (and 20 tracks digital) due for release shortly after, including remixes from Prefuse 73, Olive Oil, Himuro Yoshiteru and Hamacide himself. Hamacide will be performing live at Live House Pangea in Osaka, Japan on Saturday 27th August and hopefully he’ll bring a bunch of the 12’s back with him so hopefully all you Shanghai heads can grab a copy at the end of the month.

Hamacide – BUTA (Beat Conductorz Remixes)

Published June 22, 2011 by subcultureshanghai

BUTA Remixes – Artwork by Toru

As promised, here’s some more musical gems leading up to this Friday’s event with Hamacide and the Oil Works crew!

The track ‘BUTA’ feat Reito first appeared on Hamacide’s debut album ‘Might Little Machine’. BUTA is the Japanese word ‘pig’. Reito (the vocalist on the track) has a bleak outlook on himself and society in general in this track.  He compares himself and the world around himself to a pigs in a pen, using abstract metaphors to describe how a pigs behavior is very similar to human nature.

Along side the original track we also have 3 remixes from The Shanghai Beat Conductorz aka SIG, Ceezy and Sickstar! Each of them bring their own flavor to the track, but each without losing the menace of the original! Grab the tracks right here!
