Digging In The Crates

Published August 15, 2011 by subcultureshanghai

Been some time since we’ve hit up the record spots in Shanghai, but good to see that others have been sleeping too! Here’s a handful of things we picked up the other day, all for 5rmb!

General Caine – Don’t Stop / For Lovers Only 12″

One of the boxes we dug through was full of 80’s boogie funk and soul. Most of it wasnt that great, but here’s a nice little number we picked out, strictly for the lovers!

MTume – You, Me and He LP

Another one from that box. Nice album from MTume with a couple of great tracks. This track was used in Grand Theft Auto apparently

Dabrye – Instrmntl LP

This one I was particularly happy about finding. Mint condition copy of this classic beat album, very hard to find these days.

Primal Scream – Give Out But Don’t Give Up (Portishead RMX) 10″

Having just seen Portishead live in the UK (which was fantastic by the way), was nice to find an old Portishead track I’d never heard before from the Dummy days

Global Communication – 76:14 LP

Mark Pritchard and Tom Middletons landmark album from 1994. Possibly one of the best ambient albums ever made. Picked up not 1 but 2 brand new copies of this!

Patricia Smith – It Ain’t All That Easy 12″

Nice lovers 12 that doesnt come around all that often. Been finding quite a bit of 80’s lovers rock recently in Shanghai actually
